I would be very interested in a set of CAD tools for construction documents, and would love to hear more about it

We are looking into what is needed.

We have started a thread on the SU Pro Forum for this as well:

http://forum.sketchup.com/showthread.php?t=78843

We will probably start with a polyline, closed polyline, cross hatch and area (of closed polyline) feature and see what the user reaction is.

Anyone who has any ideas - go ahead and post them here and/or on the SU Forum.

I read most of the Pro forum, and there were many good ideas, like line weights, hatching, etc. The one thing I did not see that people were alluding to was the ability to put multiple views (elevation, floor plan, section, etc.) on to one sheet. That is somewhat like Layout, but each of those views would need to be to a scale.

One other thing to keep in mind is that construction details are drawn to a level that really shouldn't be modeled in SU, so the ability to layer details overtop of a wall section for example is also important, like is possible with Revit.

We think we are going to have to write our own plot program to implement line weights, and this may give us a chance to think about sheets.

However, we are not trying to replace ARRIS with SketchUp 2D. We are trying to provide a solution for SU users who don't have a CAD system. Perhaps we will do an export to ARRIS (and/or DXF) to let people get some features which might be difficult to implement in SketchUp.
